Sister Cities Program

Lee Troutwine, Chair
Members: Bill Miller, Joe Johnson, Don Nunnelly, Ron Christopher, Don Dykman, Chris Richards, Ron Bryant, Jim Richardson, Gus Ridgel, Tyler West.

Goals: To make cultural exchanges between Frankfort and its Sister City, San Pedro de Macoris and host a Frankfort visit by San Pedro Rotarians and officials. To visit San Pedro to assure satisfactory completion of District Rotary projects there. To increase Frankfort Rotarians’ participation in the Sister Cities Program.

 

UNICEF Program Joe Johnson, Chair
Members: Jeff Vansant
Goals: To involve the county and city schools in ”Trick or Treat” fundraising for the UNICEF program and further the aims of the Polioplus program which is the principal beneficiary of this UNICEF project.
World Community Service

Goals: The WCS committee is dedicated --
(1) to continue its support of existing local international service projects and to develop an application for a matching grant;
(2) to continue to take an active role with our Sister City-San Pedro DeMacoris in the Dominican Republic, to further our mutual professional, educational and social exchange;
(3) to continue the implementation of a potable water supply to San Pedro DeMacoris;
(4) Building upon the success of the potable water project. to investigate the possibility of another project, with the other Area 7 Rotary Clubs and the San Pedro Rotary Club;
(5) to take an aggressive role in international health programs;
(6) to draft public information op-ed pieces on Polioplus;
(7) to coordinate programs for World Understanding Month in February, 2007;
(8) to continue a program inviting Rotary Clubs in Districts 6710 and 6740 to participate in a “Rotary Day With The United Nations” which would serve as a model throughout the United States as well as Clubs around the world;
(9) to develop Rotary related interviews on Frankfort’s Global Connection program, a local access cable television hosted by Bill Miller; this program is used as a model by other Rotary Clubs throughout the nation;
(10) to organize the Club’s 10th International Dinner;
(11) to encourage at least one member to attend the Rotary day at the United Nations Program in New York in 2006;
(12) to encourage at least one member to attend the Rotary International conference; and
(13) if the Rotary Board approves establishing the International Fellowship of Rotarians for the United Nations in June, all club members will be encouraged to participate in this interesting and informative organization.

International Dinner

Marcie Jeffreys, Chai
rMembers: Bobbye Brown, Ron Christopher, Betty Creek, Nancy Edwards, Charlie Hinds, Joe R. Johnson, Sallie Clay Lanham, Bill Miller, Christine Richards, Joe Rudder, and World Community Service members.

Goals: Drawing upon the Club’s past success in hosting a fun evening oriented toward international affairs, The 10th International Dinner will be held in February, 2007. For the second year, a silent auction to benefit an international charitable organization will precede the dinner.

Our silent auction fundraising goals is $2000.

 

Rotary Foundation

Dave Weller, Chair
Members: Bob Bullock, Steve Dooley, Christina Harrison, Joyce Honaker, Bob Johnston, Carol Palmore, John Shasky, Terry Shockley.

Goals: A special emphasis will be made to:
(1) recruit 2 new Paul Harris Fellows;
(2) recruit 5 new sustaining members;
(3) increase the amount of money given to the Foundation for 2006-2007 by sustaining members;
(4)
give a total of $8000 to the Foundation; and
(5) promote Foundation activities.

Group Study Exchange Christine Richards, Chair
Members: Chuck Dickinson, Don Dykman, Joe R. Johnson, Bill Miller, Dave Weller.
Goals: To promote international good-will through the exchange of Rotary-sponsored professionals from around the world. The Frankfort Rotary Club will host the one or two teams that will visit District 6710 in 2006-7.
Youth Exchange

Greg Fuchs, Chair
Members: Charlie Hinds, Bill Miller, Christine Richards, Tim Rose.

Goals: To renew the club’s Youth Exchange Program with a new affiliation with Ohio/Erie, renew its support of high school students looking for an exchange opportunity; draw on member support in the local schools, offer this life-shaping experience to Frankfort’s youth and prepare to host a student in 2007-8.

 

Worldview Conference

Terry Magel, Chair
Members: Greg Fuchs, Charlie Hinds, Bill Miller, Terry Shockley, Christine Richards.

Goals: As for the past 29 years, we will continue to offer to local high school students the opportunity to participate in March, 2007, at the Worldview Conference and the International Affairs Forum sponsored by the Lexington Rotary Club under the auspices of the University of KY Patterson School of Diplomacy and International Commerce. Our goal is to sponsor 50 participants.

 

Ambassadorial Scholarships

Dean Sorg and Ron Christopher Co-Chairs
Members Don Dykman, Bill Miller, Terry Shockley, Christine Richards, Judy Lucarelli.

Goals:
(1) to keep the membership informed about potential scholarships;
(2) to encourage local students to apply and guide them through the process;
(3) if a local person is selected, this committee helps this Ambassadorial Scholar to get the necessary local support;
(4) to keep in contact with his or her scholarship year abroad; and
(5) to keep the club informed of the scholar’s situation.
